Race Class: GTX
Years Racing: 25
Sponsors: “Your Name Here!”
Hometown: Crystal, MN
Most Memorable Crash: 1996 Chippewa Falls, in the RX-7. I was coming out of a 70mph sweeper with Mark Utecht, Paul Menard and Lyle Nienow about to lap me. I tagged the outside bank with the tail and had a HUGE end-over-end. The car eventually landed upside-down, spinning on the ice in the racing line and gas was spilling down the side of the car and collecting in a pool by my head. Thankfully, I hit the kill switch while I was still sliding. Lyle Nienow told me later that he’d never seen a car get that high in the air in a wreck! The corner worker at the next station thought I was dead for sure, but I was okay. I was in pain for a few days, however.
How many cars you have gone through: (some still around, some long gone) Datsun 510, Mazda RX-3, Dodge Colt(RWD), 2 Mazda GLCs(RWD), Mazda RX-4, VWs: Rabbit, 2 Sciroccos and a Golf, Mazda RX-7
Tow Rig: Paul’s big Dodge truck
First Ice Racing Car: My brother Tim’s Datsun 510
Who is to blame for getting you started in ice racing: My dad took me to 2 ice races back in 1973 (St. Paul and Altoona, WI).

If you’re in pure whiteout for more than five seconds, back off and move a little to the right or left from the racing line. This has put me into the bank a few times, but it’s also saved me from a few major accidents. The start of Chippewa Falls ‘94 comes to mind. I avoided a 15 car wreck!
